The operator, Albert Frei, received approval for mining sand and
gravel resources in 1986 (County Case Number 59-86-C), and was required
to mine the pit wet. Several telephone calls have been received from
adjoining property owners claiming that their shallow water wells have
recently dried up due to the dry mining being done at the Frei pit.
This appears contrary to the approved State mining permit as well as to the
Adams County Conditional Use Permit. This letter is a formal request from
the County to the Division of Minerals and Geology for your enforcement
action. Please inform me as quickly as possible as to your inspection
schedule and enforcement remedies. If you have further questions please
contact me.
Sincerely,
Mark E.
