5.3.1,3 Mayflower Auxiliary Pump System Pipeline
• Description: This 12-inch pipeline transfers water 0.6 miles from the Clearwater Holding Pond
back to the Mayflower Tailing Pond.
Location: The 12-inch line runs from the Mayflower Pump Station to the Mayflower Tailing
Pond.
Spill Potential: Low.
Potential Volume Spilled: Approximately 3000 gallons could be spilled and subsequently
dischazged to Ten Mile Creek if a major failure or rupture of the pipeline occurred,
Prevention and Control: Sufficient containment volume exists in the Mayflower Tailing Pond
and the Clearwater Holding Pond to capture a spill of 3000 gallons, thereby preventing flow to
Ten Mile Creek.
Countermeasures: In the event of a leak in the pipeline, water can be drained into the
Clearwater Holding Pond and the water can be transferred to the Industrial Water System by
means of the Mayflower Pumping System.
Nearest Clean-up Equipment: System management as described above would preclude the use
. of spill clean-up equipment.
Visual Inspections and Integrity Testing: The pipeline is visually checked daily when in
operation. During idle periods, the pipeline is checked weekly. System alaans are telemetrically
transmitted to the mill control room.
Reporting: Any spills which threaten waters of the State of Colorado are subject to the
reporting requirements outlined in Sections 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4 of ties SPCC/MCP Plan. All spills
should be documented on the "Spill and Release Information Sheet" immediately (Appendix 1),
and copies provided to the Environmental Department,
Conformance with Applicable Requirements: At the time of this writing (May 2004) the
Mayflower Auxiliary Pumps System Pipeline is in conformance with applicable regulatory
requirements.
49
