Acconiing to BLM and Sunnyside land status and ownership plats, a
portion of the permit that Sunnyside is requesting be modified from rangeland restoration to industrial is on
public lands. We estimate the acreage at about 2.5 acres on which lies the snowshed, the American
Tunnel Portal, a transformer station and possible other installations.
The BLM is opposed to the modification to industrial use and reclamation for the portion of the permit area
that lies on BLM managed public lands. This reclamation plan is inappropriate for the long term
management of public lands.
I have attached a portion of the survey plat dated 1966 done by Sunnyside Gold that shows where the
public lands are in respect to the permit.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions at 970-385-1353 or my cell 970-759-2718.
Sincerely,
teph~~s~ ,
Abandoned Mine Lands Project Manager
San Juan Public Lands Office
encl.
