~ ~ III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
STATE OF COLO~[ZADO
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Director
DATE: October 31, 1989
T0: H. Bruce Hu~h~ri~es, Minerals Supervisor ///
FROM: Daniel I. Hernandez, John T. Doerfe~Steven G. Renner ` ~~
RE: Initial Corrective Action Plans Review /
Castle Concrete Company, Snyder Quarry
Mined Land Reclamation Division Permit No. M-77-210
Fred Banta asked our group to provide you with a list of items outlined
in Castle Concrete Company's Corrective Action Plans for the Snyder Quarry
disturbances that we could recommend Castle commerce prior to the November 15,
1989 CAP approval deadline.
There are currently ten areas planned to be reclaimed or disturbed per the
Corrective Action Plans. These are:
1. The west slope of Phase One;
2. The realignment of the upper quarry road at the old scale site;
3. The silt retention facility site and associated access read;
4. The Area One slide and its adjacent sediment deposition ,area;
5. The Area Two slide;
6. The Area Three slide;
7. The Area Four slide;
8. The Area Five slide;
9. The Area Six slide;
10. The Area Seven slide;
In addition to these disturbances, Castle Concrete has also planned for the
installation of six new corrugated steel culverts, including headiaalls and
possibly rip-rapped exits, beneath six previously undisturbed sections of the
quarry access road.
After our review, we believe that reclamation of the west slope o•F Phase One,
the Area Five slide, the Area Six slide, and the Area Seven slide can be
started now, with three conditions:
1. That areas outside of the limits of current disturbances in ~;hese areas
will not be disturbed; and
2. That replacement evergreen trees will be re-established to a•t least the
same density as the surrounding undamaged slopes; and
3. That the Division will evaluate tree establishment success no sooner than
during the summer of the fifth growing season.
/en 0848E
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
