• 5.4 Sequence of Development
5.4.1 General Sequence of Operations
The exact sequence of operations for the Cresson Project, and hence for the ECME also,
will be determined by the price of gold and the quality of. the reserves that actually occur.
The ECME is anticipated to generally occur as described and as shown on Drawing C-Sa,
Conceptual Mine Phasing for the East Cresson Mine and ECME. In general, mining will
occur for approximately two years, backfilling will occur for two to four years as mining
occurs in other portions of the Cresson Project, and reclamation activities will take place
for approximately two years. Total project duration from commencement to completion
of reclamation will take place over a time period of approximately eight years. The
project may be completed in less or more time, depending on a variety of factors.
The description of sequencing provided below is for general informational purposes and
actual development and timing may vary. Drawing C-Sa is intended to provide a visual
and conceptual description of general phases.
5.4.2 Clearing. Grubbing and Soil Removal
The clearing, grubbing, and soil (reclamation growth medium) removal methods have not
changed from approved operations under Amendment No. 8 but aze described here for
• general information.
The azea in which mining or development activities will occur will be cleazed of trees and
shrubs, lazgely through the use of dozers. The ECME azea has only a few lazge trees, in
part due to the fact that much, if not all, of this azea was historically mined, as evidenced
by old mine workings and mining remnants on the landscape. Generally, if larger trees
aze present, they are made available for firewood to employees and if conditions warrant
they may be made available to the general public.
Growth medium is generally described as any soil type that has appropriate qualities
necessary to support vegetation. Well-developed topsoil generally is not present in lazge
quantities in and regions of high elevation. Hence, soils that have roots present, or
appropriate texture that may be used for reclamation, are salvaged and stockpiled for later
use in reclamation as growth medium.
As previously mentioned, much of the proposed ECME azea has been historically mined
and there aze minimal soil resources available in this azea. CC&V will salvage growth
medium reasonably available in this area for use in reclamation. A growth medium
stockpile location has been established close to the development azea.
Growth medium will be stockpiled to depths and slopes appropriate for 1) access for
placement and removal, 2) erosional stability, 3) seeded for interim stability (see
• following paragraph), and 4) minimizing the footprint to minimize additional disturbed
area.
11
