1
' Yegembon Sampling Jor /996
' A total of nine grasses were surveyed on the disturbed area. Of those grasses, seven were cool-
season and two were warm-season. A total of six out of the nine grasses surveyed comprised a
relative cover of 3.0 percent or greater. Blue grama and side-oats grama comprised 8.4 and
' 3.8 percent of the relative vegetative cover, thus meeting the perennial warm-season diversity
requirement. Crested wheatgrass, western wheatgrass, thickspike wheatgrass, and smooth brome
fall within the cool-season perennial grass diversity requirement.
' Of the four perennial forb species sampled on the disturbed azea, only one exhibits a relative cover
of greater than 3.0 percent. The other three species each a had relative cover equal to 0.8 percent.
However, not one of the three perennial forbs sampled in the reference area was present in an
abundance greater than 3.0 percent.
' Only one shrub species was sampled in the disturbed area, representing a very minor portion of
relative cover (0.8 percent). Two shrub species were sampled in the reference area, resulting in
' one species with a relative cover greater than 3.0 percent.
Vegetative cover on the reference area was higher than the disturbance area at 14.6 percent
' (Table 3). Bare ground and litter comprised 38.4 and 45.3 percent of the area, respectively.
Rock accounted for 2.1 percent of the cover. Like the disturbed area, perennial grasses made up
most of the vegetative relative cover, 88.2 percent on the reference area. A wider variety of
' shrubs and a higher percentage of shrubs (6.8) and annual forbs (4.3) were also found (Table 3).
Annual forbs accounted for a minor percentage of vegetative cover (0.6 percent ).
' Tables 4 and 5 present the study and reference area comprehensive plant species lists for the CCM
No. l Mine. Grasses, forbs, shrubs, and weedy species are listed in the tables by scientific and
common names.
1
1

1
1
' bm1.OSJ`DSJ.1996~Srpiaober IJ. 1996 A-6
