As noted earlier, the 11 wells drilled by Multi Mineral Corp. provide the
basis of the information provided hereing. Also, wells 14-1, 20-1, 24-1 and
28-1 are of definite interest since they have been permitted by IRI for
groundwater rights. The locations of all of these wells are shown in Figure
G-22.
G.2.3.2.4 Aquifer Testing
Two extended pumping tests were conducted by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
personnel in wells located on the maxi-pad. One test each was conducted in
the Lower Aquifer and the Upper Aquifer. Test results are presented in
Table G-2. Calculations and curves are contained in Appendix A.
The Lower Aquifer test was conducted in July 1981. Well MMC-IRI-B served as
the pumping well, producing approximately 60 gallons per minute (gpm) over
the 10,000 minute pumping portion of the test. Wells MMC-IRI-4, -5, -6, and
-7 simultaneously monitored drawdown in the Lower Aquifer and the Upper
Aquifer. Because 1;he Lower Aquifer piezometers experienced measurable
drawdown, transmissivity and storage coefficient were calculated. There was
no meaningful drawdown evidenced in any of the Upper Aquifer piezometers,
indicating an absence of significant communication between aquifers.
However, if the test: had been conducted over a longer period of time it
would be expected theft the drawdown would be more significant.
The Upper Aquifer was tested in November 1981, again using well MMC-IRI-8 as
the pumping well. During the 2,000 minute test duration, a discharge of
approximately 20 gpm was achieved. Upper Aquifer water levels were
simultaneously monitored for drawdown in wells MMC-IRI-4, -5, -6, -7 and
Lower Aquifer levels in wells MMC-IRI-S, -6, and -7. Because the Upper
Aquifer piezometers experienced measurable drawdown, transmissivity and
storage coefficient vrere calculated. No changes were observed in the water
level in the Lower /lquifer piezometers, again indicative of an absence of
communication.
~•
G-35
