E-3
• E.4 SITE-SPECIFIC F:ECLAMATIUN PRACTICES
E.4.1 Grading
Upon reclamation and decommissioning, the site will be graded to be at
slopes appropriate to the proposed post-mining land use (rangeland-
wildlife). The post-mining slopes will not exceed those presently existing
in the immediate area (Exhibit F) and, in no case, will be steeper than 3:1.
Surface drainage will be reestablished to pre-mining conditions.
All grading will be done in a manner to control erosion and siltation of
affected lands.
E.4.2 Topsoil Stripping, Stockpiling, and Replacement
In the preparation process, the native topsoil on the disturbed areas will
be removed and stockpiled to the extent possible. Suitable surface soil
• materials will be scraped from the areas of disturbance and stockpiled at
designated locations, as described in Exhibit D.
Surfaces of topsoil stockpiles will be temporarily stabilized and protected
from wind and water erosion by seeding suitable grass species. Selected
species may include tall wheatgrass (Agropyron elongatum), crested
wheatgrass (A r9 opyrc~n cristatum), western wheatgrass (A. smithii), Indian
ricegrass (Uryzopsis hymenoides), alfalfa, and sweetclover. An established
grass and forb cover will be adequate to protect topsoil stockpiles form
erosion until the soil is needed for reclamation. Topsoil suitability
ratings and approximate soil volumes are indicated in Exhibit I. The amount
of topsoil available will allow for a topsoil respreading depth of six to
twelve inches. The topsoil will be spread as evenly as practical on the
regraded surfaces.
E.4.3 Surface Preparation
• Where necessary, surfaces to be reclaimed will be ripped prior to receiving
a topsoil cover from the topsoil stockpiles.
