•
(ASTM-1557). Liner bedding material, consisting of rock free on-site earthen
material will be placed prior to the installation of a 20-mil Hypalon pond
liner.
Flow to the evaporation pond and evaporation surface area is 2 gpm and 2
acres, respectively.
Figure D-6 presents a typical cross-section of the pond. Interior berm slopes
will be 4.0 horizontal to 1.0 vertical. Exterior berm slopes will be 2.0
horizontal and 1.0 vertical.
D.3.5 Processing Methodology
Process heat is supplied by two 200-horsepower, diesel-fired boilers. Steam
circulates through the heat exchangers and product dryer in a closed loop.
Process electrical power is supplied by three of 200-kw natural gas fueled
generators.
When operation of the Pilot Plant ceases, the solid material remaining in the
evaporation pond will be disposed of in an approved off-site landfill.
D.3.6 Affected Acreage
The total disturbed acreage associated with the proposed Pilot Plant will be
approximately 14 acres. The areas of disturbance are shown on Figure D-1.
The component parts of the disturbed areas are indicated in Table
D-2. Per Rule 2 of the MLRD Regulations, the majority of the disturbance
will fall into the "moderate disturbance" category. For the purposes of
this permit application, it is assumed that reclamation of the area will
commence only after the Pilot Plant has ceased operation.
•
