Box 25367
Denver, CO 80225-0367
Re: Eastside Mine OS-02421
Disposal of Mining Waste in Underground Workings
Sealing Plan for the Eastside Mine
Dear Mr. Kuzar:
Eastside Coal Company is in the process of closing and reclaiming the
Eastside Mine. Equipment removal was started on January 5, 1995.
Eastside Coal Company is requesting permission to dispose of approximately
2,000 yards of waste material stockpiled on the surface. This waste material
consists of a mixture of rock and coal. The rock is from development work in
the rock and rock spars located in the coal seam.
.The following procedure will be used to dispose of the waste underground.
1. The material will be placed in the area indicated on the attached
map.
2. The entry will be filled to no more than three feet from the roof so
ventilation is not disrupted.
3. Rock dust will be applied to the material as it is placed.
4. It will be placed in the entry such that if the mine is re-opened,
the material would be required to be removed for access to the rest of
the mine.
5. Seals will be in place no later than 4 weeks after the material is
placed underground. The seals will be in place by March 15, 1995 at the
latest.
The portals will be sealed as per to the drawing TYPICAL PORTAL SEAL, Drawing
8 which is attached.
The material will be placed underground beginning the 1st of February 1995.
If you have any additional questions, I would appreciate a phone call so
final approval can be obtained by that date.
Sincerely,
.Stephen S~
General Manager
