County officials say
t>Mat would adversely impact roads that are
~Iadequate Cor heavy truck traffic and re-
~ttire improvements before hauling could
The other option would establish a new
direct access onto Highway 82 from the
plant and gravel pit, which would need ap-
proval from the Colorado Department of
Transportation, It would also require a revi-
sion of the grave! pit permit, which allows
access oNY on county roads.
T~ gavel pit is located on the Jean
Blue artFh, across from the Ranch at Roar-
ing rk and just north of the section of
hightr~ay' now being four-laved. It's situated
over a berm and so is not visible from the
highway, and it currently lacks a direct
highway access.
So a residents argue that the proposed
concr , e plant doesn't fit in at all with the
growl ~ residential area and should be de-
nied, en though the gravel pit has been
there s ce 1481.
"I r nt the proliferation of an industrial
plant ' an agricultural and residential
area;' aid Betty DeBeque, a resident at
Ranch t Roaring Fork, a subdivision of
more t n 150 condominiums and single-
family mes. "We're trying to mai in a
certain uality of life here."
Othe Ranch residents said the propo d
highwa access would create hazards fro
trucks euering the highway and that brak
ing trucks would be noisy.
Chris Lacher, a resident of Hawk Ridga ~
Subdivision an 103 Road, charged that the
commissioners appear to have already
made up their minds and are concecrtad..
only with solving the access problem.
"It sounds by the way your talking het@
[hat you've made your decision;' Locher'
said. "You're talking about access when tht3:
fact is we should be talking about whethel`s
we should have the batch plain." - -
Locher argued that residential concerns.
should take precedence because more prop -
erty taxes in the county now come froth
residential property as opposed to commet-
:cial and industrial operations.
' Commission Chairman Arnold Mackley
denied that any decisions have been made
and responded to Locher that homes require
building materials such as concrete.
"Every one of your homes has a concrete
four[daeion," he said.
Cotnmissicners postponed a decision on
