Faye 2
When the ContinenCal mine closed down there were a lot
of people thrown out of year round employment in Garfield County.
I realize with the sking resorts nearby there is seasonal employment,
but mining people can not always find employment in resort areas.
Putting the Harvey Gap into production would help to boost the local
economy and give some of these miners their pride back as well as
stop t}ie declining population in Silt and the surrounding area.
I realize Iam writing to you a little late, but maybe you
can help in some way. I would not be writing to you if I did not feel
that by putting the Harvey Gap into production it would help
stimulate the local economy as well as put more tax money ect. into
the states coffers. There is a lot of coal on the private ground
in the Harvey Gap properties and therefore we would not need to mine
BLM coal for years to come, which makes it a lot simpler.
I would be exremely grateful for any help you can give us in
this matter. I have heard from friends and relatives that live in
Colorado that you can accomplish a lot in a little amount of time,
so please help this worthwhile problem. The Board of Supervisors has
called a meeting for the 12th of May, which Iam planning on attending.
The sad thing is we can not keep on pouring money into a bottomless
pit. The families of Silt and the surrounding area will be the ones
to loose in the long run if we do not go forth will the mining of the
Harvey Gap.
Respectfully,
Candy Eldridge Smith
