Lnng
Drvo~on Dueaor
The Division has reviewed your letter of January 26, 2001, and has the following additional questions
regazding Technical Revision No. 33. Please provide your response to this letter no later than
February 23, 2001.
1) Based upon our experience with underground mine dewatering systems elsewhere in
Colorado, we remain concerned that the proposed North Decline dewatering system will
become clogged by underground debris. If the proposed North Decline system clogs, the
system would be rendered nonfunctional. Please provide your assessment of this potential
risk.
2) As an alternative plan, it seems prudent to install a free draining outlet at the -ocation of the
backfilled Northwest Intake Portal. Such a system would incorporate a larger diameter drain
(or series of drains) which would be less likely to clog than the proposed North Decline pipe.
Please provide your assessment of this alternative plan.
3) If such an alternative plan is feasible, then please provide the detailed installation designs and
schedules. Discuss any other permitting requirements such as MSHA, CDOT or CDPH
permitting.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this request.
L
Cc: Dan Mathews
Cheryl Linden
