Cover data was obtained using an ocular point bar developed by
ESCO Assoc.
Data Summary
(Reference any tables, diagrams or maps attached)
Attachment 1 - Transect locations
Attachment 2 - Cover and species diversity summary
Narrative Evaluation of Compliance
Due to limited time available, an insufficient number of samples were taken to fully
characterize the site. Total number of samples needed for sample adequacy was calculated
at 32.48, although visual inspection of the site indicates that this number would decrease
with additional samples. Transect locations were not truly random but were visually
chosen to provide a representative cross section of the overall site. This is a pre-mined
site so therefore it has no woody stem density or production standards, only cover and
species di:ersity standards apply.
These observations can be made, based on the data and inspection of the site:
-An effective stabilizing stand of perennial vegetation has been established.
-The east-facing aspect supports far less cover than the west-facing aspect, but it
comprises only approximately 30 percent of the total reclaimed area and no evidence cf
wind or water erosion was observed.
-There is a significant number of annuals present, but numbers are similar to or less than
those of pre-nine annual components.
-Total perennial cover of 30.0 percent exceeds the standard of 23.0 percent.
-Eight species, from grass and shrub life forms, each contribute over one percent relative
cover which exceeds the species diversity standard of four species ever one percent.
' A separate tracking sheet should be filled out for each area and compliance topic
evaluated.
SSS/yjb
5344E
