1
Ms. Christine Johnston
July 29, 1996 - MR 190
Page 2
d
71 f D
(MR 190), and this seems to correspond with MCC's plans for fmal reclamation of the
refuse pile. The third cross-section contradicts this information. Specifically, the top two
cross-sections indicate a fuushed grade at 6,250 feet, while the third cross-section shows a
different finished grade for the same refuse pile top.
Please provide further explanation, or revise the cross-section to be consistent with the other
submitted information.
4) Response accepted.
5) Response accepted, with the understanding that the final refuse pile configuration remains
in question, as discussed at Number 2 above.
6) The adequacy response received July 26, 1996 indicates that subsoil materials are located
in berms and on the west flank reclamation.
Is there also subsoil under the current topsoil pile? Please specify the amounts of subsoil
(cubic yards) at each of these locations.
7) It is our understanding that all topsoil removed during the lower bench pile and lower bench
salvage activities was moved either to the west flank of the refuse pile as reclamation and/or
to the topsoil pile now located on the refuse pile top. Is this correct?
8) It was our understanding that some of the initial topsoil pile material was used to ieclaim
the west flank of the refuse pile, prior to the remainder of the topsoil pile being moved to
the current topsoil pile. Is this correct? Please explain the manner in which this was
accomplished.
9) Response accepted.
10) The amount of topsoil and subsoil needed for reclamation will vary depending upon the final
configuration of the refuse pile. MCC should review the long-term plans and material
balance figures carefully to prevent unnecessary rehandling of the soil materials.
11) See Number 10 above.
12) As stated above, it appears that there is uncertainty about the final refuse pile configuration.
It appears likely, however, that whether the final configuration is as shown on Figure 2.OD
or as shown on Figure 2.0E and the pile top is used for storage of equipment, soil material
relocation will be required. Please specify the anticipated soil relocation plan at this time,
including anticipated pile locations and volumes.
13) Response accepted.
