-2-
Samples are collected from the streams at a point of flow using a
peristaltic pump. Typically, four to five liters of sample are col-
lected from each location. The appropriate types of sample containers,
filters, and preservatives are used. The samples are placed in coolers
along with ice and shipped by air freight to the designated laboratory.
Conductivity, pH, temperature, and dissolved oxygen are determined in
the field.
Attachment p4 is a summary of the analytical data for one of Colony's
stream sample locations. The location is station X557 which is located
at the stream gaging station F1R in the East Middle Fork of Parachute
Creek.
1 NPDES Compliance
Colony monitors all discharges from Sediment Pond N5 in accordance with
our NPDES Permit No. CO-0038270. Attachment k5 is a summary of the
permit's effluent limitations and monitoring requirements. A Discharge
Monitoring Report is submitted quarterly to the Colorado Department of
Health.
l Groundwater Quality/Groundwater Levels
Attachments #6 and 7 are examples of the data which exists for the
numerous monitor wells located at Colony. While Colony feels that a
thorough understanding of the area's groundwater is important, we feel
that additional monitoring is no longer warranted at this time. Prior
to processed shale disposal and commercial mine production, there will
be enough time to allow for additional monitoring.
DMB:bIs
