Summary of B Seam Well Quality
Year of data pH TDS SAR Typology
Well
'77
SOM 23-H-1 8.35 6100 NaSo4
'69
SOM 23-H-1 8.5 773 160 NaHC03
'89
SOM C-72-H 11.2 1780 NaC03
'89
SOM-127-H 7.35 4061 81.28 NaHC03
a. SOM 23-H-1 was apparent impacted by a landslide somewhere
after August, 1978. Salinity dropped almost ten times,
the water typology changed and water levels went up over
500: Is the entire well intact to its original depth?
Was the sampling methodology in the late 70's different
from what was used this winter? What other explanations
can account for the significant variability observed?
b. Well C-72-H appears to be contaminated with grout due
to its high pH. This data is unacceptable and should be
withdrawn from the application materials. Anew well
should be installed to provide information about the
B-seam.
c. The salinity in these wells varies considerably. Can you
correlate these variation with changes in geology, well
completion factors or any other parameters? Justify the
use of only three wells to monitor this seam when the
variability is so great.
d. Please supplement Tables 2.SA 13, 2.8A 14 and 2.8A 15
with any additional data you have collected.
4. The location of geological data documentation is summarized
on page 2-283. There is no reference given for the three
B-seam holes drilled in 1988. Please reference permit
application documentation of these holes or prepare a
section describing the drilling, associated testing and
completion data for them.
5. The drill hole located in the SE 1/4 SW 1/4 of Section 21,
T13A, R90W has been variously identified as SOM-DH-3,
SOM-U3 and 127-H. Is there only one drill hole at this
location?
6. Please include a commitment to acquire adjacent baseline
moni tori ng data from the E seam and twelve months prior to
submittal of a revision to mine that seam.
