i
13. Area 1 Channel. The cross-section of the Area 1 slide in the
victnity o~~ie channel has been provided in the submit:tal.
The velocity estimate requested has not been provided, but the
critical information on particle size has been mentionE~d in the
discussion as ... relatively large, non-eroding rock~~."
Based on the size of rocks in the slide material avail~ible,
this qualitative description is acceptable.
A further discussion is provided which proposed construction of
an 8-foot wide channel with 3:1 side slopes and minimum 3 percent
channel slope. This channel sizing was defined by comF~arison to
the natural channel upstream and downstream of the inundation
area. A meander, formed by active channel processes, is expected
to develop in what is referred to as this "pilot" channel. Other
areas of the channel in the vicinity of the slides were verified
as not needing channel construction. The channel design proposed
is acceptable.
14-15. Silt Retention Facility Design. The commitment to provide the
engtneering~stgn bD~ays prior to anticipated construction is
acceptable.
JTD/eke
1931F/
