Long <br />, Division Director <br />Re: West Elk Mine (Permit No. C-1980-007) <br />Permit Renewal Application No. 4 (RN-4) <br />Dear Sir or Madam: <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 118, <br />Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on April 17, 2001, an application to renew an existing permit <br />to conduct coal mining operations at the West Elk Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All <br />review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act and [he Rules initiate <br />from [his date of filing. <br />Mountain Coa] Company, LLC proposes to continue underground coal mining and/or reclamation opemtions on <br />land located approximately 9 miles east of Paonia, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />Portions or all of Sections 9, 10, I5, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25. 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 34, 35, and 36, Township <br />l3 South, Range 90 West of the 6th P.M.; and portions or all of Sections 23, 24, 25, and 26, Township 13 South, <br />Range 91 West of the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of Somerset and Bowie. <br />A copy of the renewal application is available for public inspection a[ the Gunnison County Courthouse, 200 E <br />Virginia, Gunnison, CO 81230, and at the Division office.
