.•
Memo to Dan Mathews
Deserado Mine TR-48, Subsidence
page 4
highest probability of discernable damage to Rio Blanco County Road 65 would be
above the southeast corner of panel LW-2B and above the northeastern rib of panel
LW-5B. I would recommend that hazard warning signs be place in the vicinity of
these two specific locations and that particular interest be focused upon them
during daily inspections for subsidence-related road damage.
§III.A.7.j Red Wash and Scullion Gulch (pages III-21 & III-22)
As I stated above, I believe that cracks within the peripheral area of longwall mining
and above the chain pillars may tend to take longer to develop, may be wider and
deeper, and will tend to remain open longer, then the more transient cracks directly
above the panels. Particular attention should be focused upon the area within
Scullion Gulch immediately above the southeastern corner of panel LW-1 B. When
longwall retreat commences in this area I recommend visual monitoring be
conducted several times a week until retreat has proceeded a distance from the
channel equal to at least the depth of the seam.
Conclusion
As I stated in my opening, the Deserado Mine has proven to be responsible in
relation to its prediction, monitoring and mitigation of subsidence impacts during
it's mining within the D-Seam. I have no reason to expect a change in its
responsible treatment of this permit topic. With appropriate response to the above
concerns, I am sure that the subsidence aspects of TR-48 will be rendered
completely acceptable.
Please forward BME's supplemental response to me for review upon it's receipt.
Cc: Larry Routten
doc: M:\COAL\JAP\DESBSEAM.WPD
JP/1P
