Walther
Executive Director
Michael B. Long
Division Director
We have reviewed the chemical and physical analyses of processing waste generated from washing of the
Bowie coal, and the more recent submittal, which documents the quantities of reject material produced
from washing of Bowie and Roadside coals. No water quality or plant growth concerns are indicated by
the analyses provided.
We do have wncem regarding stability impligtions of placing the foreign waste wash material m the
approved disposal stmcturcs, should the swctures receive significant additional waste. We would request
that Powderhorn provide surveyed documentation of current elevations of the active bench surfaces on
CRDA-l and CRDA-2, and commit to re-analysis of slope stability within 60 days, should active bench
elevation exceed current elevations by more than 5 feet, due to additional waste disposal. Please see
memorandum from Jim Pendleton, enclosed.
Please feel free to contact Jim or me if you have questions.
should provide a good opportunity to discuss this matter.
Sincerel , / L~
Dan T. mews
Environmental section Specialist
ce: Jim Pendleton
Denver File
Tanya Hammond, PCC
STATE OF COLORADO
Jim's scheduled site visit next Wednesday
ce:
