Genera Comments
All affected portions of the permit area were inspected. Middle Creek Pit,
Mine No. 3 Pit and Middle Creek Office/shop areas were walked. Due to time
constraints, office records were not checked, but will be checked during the
June inspection. One Cessation Order (C-85-043) and four Notices of Violation
(C-85-044, C-85-045, C-85-046 and C-85-047) were issued. See Sections III and
IV of this report for further information regarding the enforcement actions.
General observations were that grading and topsoiling has been completed at
the Mine No. 3 Pit. Final grading has not yet been completed at the Middle
Creek Pit. Significant ponding of water was observed on the Middle Creek
rough graded spoils and it appeared that sufficient material might not be
available to achieve the designed post-mining topography. If this is the
case, the operator will need to submit a technical revision to the reclamation
plan. The revision will need to address both long term (after sediment pond
removal) and short term (before sediment pond removal) drainage
considerations. A spring which arises in an undisturbed area above the spoils
is feeding the pond noted above and will have to be diverted before
reclamation Can be completed.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver.
