Using the emergency spillway as a reference the principle spillway would have
to be at least 4.7 feet above the sediment level to contain a 10 year 24 hour
storm event. Additional pond capacity can be achieved by raising the
principle spillway to within 1 foot of the emergency spillway.
Recommendations and conclusions: The pond as designed has sufficient capacity
to contain twice the 10 year 24 hour storm event. The riser pipe for the
principle spillway should be installed as specified in the original approved
design. The pipe should be marked with foot gradations below the top of the
outlet. At no time should .the sediment level be allowed to be above 5 feet
below the outlet pipe; this level should be marked with red paint or other
means to indicate tom] the sediment cleanout level. The riser pipe
should be stabilized in a vertical position with fence posts to prevent ice
and cattle from knocking the pipe over. The dewatering device can be a dozen,
one half inch holes drilled along the length of the pipe from the top of the
pipe to the sediment clean out marker.
RPP/ddt
7908E
