Atkinson August 12, 1993
HYDROLOGICAL MODELLING CHRONOLOGY
The following is meant to serve as a factual, detailed chronology of the
hydrological modelling efforts undertaken for both the Prospect and West Pit watersheds of the
Colowyo Mine. This modelling has been undertaken to arrive at an agreement with the Division
of Minerals and Geology on all hydrological aspects, especially sediment pond and diversion
ditch sizing/design.
March 1991 - Juan Garcia held discussions with Berhan Keffelew, Reclamation
Specialist, MLRD, coming to an agreement on the basis for the
hydrological modelling for both the West Pit and Prospect watersheds.
March/April 1991 - J. Garcia performed SEDCAD modelling and designs for both the West
Pit and Prospect watersheds. Tony Waldren is Colowyo's lead inspector
for MLRD.
May 10, 1991 - Colowyo Permit RenewallPermit Revision Application submitted to
MLRD which included all hydrological information. Carl Mount is now
Colowyo's new lead inspector for MLRD.
August 21, 1991 - Jce Dudash, Reclamation Specialist, MLRD, requested and was sent on
this date additional SEDCAD modelling information to aid him in his
review of the hydrology.
October 4, 199I - Colowyo received MLRD's Preliminary Adequacy Review for the PR-1
permit application submitted May 10, 1991. The primary concerns
specific to the SEDCAD modelling were a justification for use of the
curve number 63 and justification for use of a "slow" hydrograph option.
October 15, 1991 - Meeting held between Colowyo and MLRD to discuss PR-I items of
concern.
December 5, 1991 - Colowyo submitted responses to PR-1. Steve Wathen is now Colowyo's
new lead inspector for MLRD.
March 25, 1992 - Colowyo receives an updated list of concerns from MLRD regarding PR-
1.
