(SLA), you
requested information pertaining to methods of establishing limiting
velocity, Manning's n values used for design, and the effect of
flow depth on channel stability. I have enclosed a description of the
method for establishiny limiting velocities given the stone sizes pre-
sented in your letter. Due to the uncertainty in the application of
erosion mechanics, I hesitate to provide you with design values for
Manning's n and a discussion of the flow depth on channel stability.
To properly design a stable channel many factors must be evaluated.
Experience in erosion mechanics and engineering judyement play an
important role in stable channel design. I would recommend that you
contact us or an equally qualified firm if the design of a specific
channel is in question.
I am also enclosing an invoice for the cost of preparing and sending
the enclosed information. If I can be of further assistance, do not
hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Bradlek~derson, P.E.
Senior Water Resources Engineer
BAA/mpp
RDF214/R833
Colorado Springs, CO ~ Denver, CO
Newport Beach, CA ~ Phoenix, AZ ~ Tucson, AZ
