These dumps will be grade to blend
with the local topography with the final slopes slightly
flatter than the angle of repose. The volume of waste rock
brought from underground will be kept to a minimum, and when
possible, wastes will be left underground in abandoned stopes.
These dumps will not be reseeded since the materials are large
(minus six inch) and there won't be any 4ines in the voids.
The fines are removed during the screening operation.
Anv portals which have been opened will be sealed to prevent
further access. This can be done by securing a steel grate
over the opening, blasting the tunnel, or backfillinq with /
some of the waste dump roc4~. Since the mine is owned by a
third part v. the most reasonable methods of closure would be
bacF:filling or sealing with a steel grate.
Exposed cuts around the portals may have to be stabilized to
prevent upslooe sloughing of soils. Waste roc4i could be ~
6ackfilled along the cuts or grading could use to recontour
the cut. All back:fillinq would be done with waste rock graded
to an angle slightly flatter than the angle of repose.
Seeding will be done in the fall to ta4::e advantage of
snowfall, snow cover, freezing, and spring moisture. The seed ,~
mixture recommended by the U. S. Soil Conservation Service
(see letter attached to E;<hibit P) will be used to reseed the
site.
Should the amount of too soil stockpiled be inadequate to
cover all topographically flatter areas, no additional soil
will be imported to the mine site. However, soil amenities
and mulching will be used to promote seedling development
within the fines of those areas which can not be redressed
with top soil.
1
