VEGETATION INFORMATION
araas saedina: The seedbed should be well settled and firm
but friable for seed placement. Soils that have been over-
compacted by equipment should be tilled to break up rooting
restictive layers, then harrowed, rolled or packed to
prepare the required firm seedbed. Grass should be drilled
using a grass drill. Drilling should be done between
November 1 and April 30 prior to a period of anticipated
moisture and after all other treatment is completed.
Recommended planting depth is i/2 t6 3/4 inches. The
following grass species are recommended for reclaiming the
area:
Variety Species Pure live seed/acre
Vaughn Sideoats grams 2.70
Arriba Western wheatgrass 3.20
Blackwell Switchgrass .90
Covington Blue grams .60
Llano, Holt Yellow indiangrass 1.00
(See attached seeding recommendation, CO-BCS-5, Part I)
Weed control should be maintained on the site during grass
establishment. No grazing should be allowed during the
first two growing seasons of stand establishment. After
that period, the stand should be evaluated to see if
sufficient plant growth has occurred to support gracing.
You will find a report from James Borchert, Soil Scientist,
attached-that describes his findings on the soil
characteristics at the site.
If you have any further requests for information or
questions on the information provided, please give me a
call. i apologize for the delay in getting this information
to you.
S~inc~er^e_ly,
Dawn Jac on
Resource onservationist
