CO 80203
RE: Iron Pomt and Elk Creek Tracts Coal Mining
Dear Mr. Dudash:
MAR 0 4 1999
Division of Minerals & Geology
Please accept this letter as our support of Coal Mining in general and in specific the Iron Pomt and
Elk Creek projects. Coal mining has had very large economic contribution to our area with relatively low
environmental impact. Our area benefits from royalty, property tax, severance tax, grants for school
construction and other infrastructure, as well as wages supporting area businesses. There need to be studies
of such impact as it relates to our overall economy.
Delta County as a whole will benefit greatly from the Iron Point and Elk Creek Tracts being in full
production. There needs to be a study of the flow of money from coal mining to Delta County. We believe
it is significant.
We believe that there will be much adverse effect upon the Noah Fork Valley and Delta County tf
coal mining is restricted. It has been around for a long time, and benefited many lives and businesses.
Those who have come into the valley in recent years apparently have no respect for the history and
established relationshtps, at least those who are now opposing the projects. It is not appropriate Cor a small
number of people to dictate to the majority of citizens and businesses that rely upon and have very good
relationshtps wtth the coal tndusm~. There needs to be a study of the adverse economic impact to our area
tf the mines were not here.
Finally, the question remains as to why newcomers did not understand the type of area they were
moving to before coming to a coal mining area. The majority of citizens and businesses who have been
here for years are comfortable with the coal industry, and its positives far outweigh any negatives. Thank
you Cor your kind attention and consideration.
Sincere ~~ yC~~i`"-~
GC/ /
Clinton W.
