Larry and Marian Gallegos
209 l2ed Mesa Heights
Grand Junction, CO 81503
(3138 C Road: new home under
construction.)
Mesa County Commissioners
750 Main
Grand Junction, CO 81501
Uear Commissioner:
This letter is in regard to the proposed expansion of the
1-arkerson gravel .pit on Orchard Mesa. We are ,against it:
i'le have been told tYrat the expansion will include acreage
that is not prime for agriculture, And yet, if 120 trucks
per riay are allowed to travel from that pit, the dust and
diesel exhaust will have an effect on the surrounding
agriculture that may never be repaired, 1'arkerson has had
an out-of-court settlement arith one of the orchard owners.
'1'tie dust from f'arlcerson's trucks are norr creating damage
and leave destroyed some of his crops. Is this preservation
of lrrime agriculture?
i'Je .z re also concerned about our rights to a .peaceful
neighborhood, If larkerson does not get this expansion,
it has been said tlir.it it will ,affect his livelihood, It
may be his livelihood, but vrliat about our lives? IIis trucks
vrill run, on the average, one every 15 minutes from 6:00 a.m,
to 8:00 I~,m, That does not sound peaceful to us. Some
people's homes are within feet of ]'arkerson's hall road,
Mould you like to have a dumptruck drive by your home every
15 minutes for 1 (t hours'?
~'1nd with all of those dump trucks running on the road, where
do our children erallc to and from the bus stop in safety?
'.Cliere are no shoulders on C Road, ~;Jlien two trucks pass each
other, there is no safe place left on the road, Is some-
one going to leave to be killed before that fact is rea.l.ized?
'Flee proposal states that at the end of the useful life of
his I;it, r'arkerson Trill reclaim the land and Yill lleVries
will ~ to farm it, :'11iat kind of consolation is that'?
Anyone can try! Hill ])e Vries Trill be 77 years old! i'Ihere
is the guarantee that he vrill have any desire to farm at
tli~zt aige? ClliaL kind of reclamation has 1.'arkerson done at
present? Or before? I am sure exlrerts can testify for both
sides. But erhere is the proof? ~,~hat has he done to prove
himsc:~i'?
iio~,v far are you willing to go? Can any business come into '
the area because the land isn't prime? Please vote against
this proposal,
rr~" I~r
