Lont
Division Dvecmr
1645 Court Place, Ste 309
Denver, CO 80202
Mr. Lewicki:
The Division has completed review of technical revision #16 (TR-16), Revision of Revegetation
Standazds, for the Rimrock mine. Please respond to the following question as soon as possible.
Please define how the upper limit of the diversity standazd will be applied, should
reclamation success sampling indicate an individual species is present in excess of 60%
relative cover. For example, if future bond release sampling indicates that the vegetative
community is comprised of 61% Side oats grams, 13% western wheatgrass, 2%
American vetch, 2.3% green needlegrass, and the balance 21.7% comprised of various
species all under 3% relative cover, how would Rimrock Coal Company apply the 60%
maximum exclusion to the diversity standazd? Furthermore, what measures would
Rimrock take, should relative cover for single species exceed the upper limit?
Sincerely, /
Kent Gorham
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Dan Hernandez, DMG
