Lnng <br /> Division Dveno~ <br />Re: West Elk Mine (Permit No. C-80-00'n <br />Technical Revision Application No. 78 <br />Lower Refuse Pile Reconfiguration <br />Dear Mr. Geier: <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 33, Article 34, <br />Section 118, Paragraph 3 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on March 20, 1996, an application to revise <br />coal mining operations at the West Elk Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision <br />was submitted by Mountain Coal Company. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the <br />Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br />The revision addresses reconfiguration of the Lower Refuse Pile to increase the disposal volume by <br />approximately 360,000 cubic yards. <br />The West Elk coal mining operation is on land located approximately one mile east of Somerset, Colorado. <br />The permit area is further described as follows: <br />Townshio 13 South. Rance 90 West. 6th P.M.: <br />Sections 9, 10, 15-30, and 34-36 <br />Township 13 South. Range 91 West. 6th P.M.: <br />Sections 23-26 <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land aze shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of Bowie and Somerset. <br />A wpy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Delta County Courthouse, <br />501 Palmer, Delta, Colorado 81416, and at the Division office. For additional information or to provide <br />written comments, contact the Division of Minerals and Geology, Room 215, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, <br />Colorado 80203, (303) 866-3567. In order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that <br />comments be submitted within fifteen (15) days of this letter.
