CO 80203
Dear Mr. Dudash.
File Code: 2820
Date: Tune 1, 2000
The Grand Mesa-Uncompahgre-Gumtisou National Forests (GMUG) has reviewed Technical
Revision l5 for the Bowie No. 2 mine. We would like to provide the following comments:
l . Should GOB vent boreholes be needed over mine workings where the overlying
surface is administered by the Forest Service, a sitr-specific NEPA analysis would be
needed.
2. There is minimal information regazding the "light road use". Should vent boreholes
be needed on land administered by the Forest Service, a road use authorization would be
needed.
3. Cultural resource, attd threatened and endangered species clearances would be needed
for each vent borehole location.
4. Dri Il pad size may nced to be made smaller if sensitive surface resources are present at
a particular location. The Forest Service would require as minimal disturbance as
possible.
5. Surface completions of the borcholes would need to account for other land uses.
6. Surface occupancy, including the drilling, would (rave to comply with the stipulations
attached to the applicable Federal coal lease.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. Please contact Liane Mattson at the above telephone
number if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
~- ~- . ~ -~
SUSAN J.
