Long <br />Division Director <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 1 l6, <br />Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on September 12, 2001, an application [o revise coal mining <br />operations at the Lorencito Canyon Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was <br />submitted by Lorencito Coal Company, LLC. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the <br />Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br />This revision responds [o the requirements necessary [o satisfy stipulation #6, issued during the original permitting <br />of the mine. It also requests approval for three sediment ponds and a haul rclad for the 7eff Canyon surface mine. <br />The combined surface and underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 3 miles west of <br />Segundo on Hwy 12. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />On lands south of the Purgatoire River, lands east of the South Fork of the Purgatoire and Alamosa Canyon, lands <br />north of Vermejo Park, and lands west of Widow Woman Canyon containing approximately 17,862 acres. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land aze shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Little Pine Canyon <br />The applicant is required to publish notice in a local newspaper that this application has been deemed complete. <br />At the time of publication of this notice, the applicant is additionally required to place a copy of this application at <br />the Las .Mimas County Courthouse, 200 East First Street, Room 104, Trinidad, CO 81082, and at the Division <br />office. For additional information or to provide written comments, contact the Division of Minerals and Geology, <br />Room 215, 13] 3 Sherman Street, Dem~er, Colorado 80203, (303) 866-3567. in order for us to comply with <br />regulatory time frames, we request that comments be subrrtitted within fifteen (l5) days of this letter.
