The acreage of the affected land remains unchanged. The original permit for this operation was approved in October 1979 . The application for that permit called for all or part of the affected land to be backfilled. When asked to be more specific , the operator said that the area would not be backfilled . This resulted in a "U" shaped lake on the main part of the affected land. When excavation began it became necessary to dispose of a large quantity of overburden . The most logical plan for disposal was to backfill a 3. 16t acre parcel in the northeast cornef of the property. The fill material consisted of overburden stripped from the site and was clean, containing no contaminants . Technical Revision 1 . Request for a change in the Reclamation Plan to indicate a backfilled area of 3 . 16f acres , thus making the total lake area 5. 41t acres (see map enclosed) . Technical Revision 2. Request for a decrease in the total area to be mined. The 1 .67t acre parcel west of the Union Pacific right of way will not be mined. It will be used as a stockpile and equip- ment storage area until mining is complete . At that time the parcel will be reclaimed under the Revegetation Plan outlined in the original application .
