Dillie and Oswald:
This letter follows-up on my letter of July 14, 1994 in
which I advised that the Colorado Springs Mining Reclamation
• Advisory Committee would submit comments on the proposed
Amendments. We understand that Castle Concrete Company has
consented to extend the comment period so that the Division can
receive and consider our comments.
After reviewing the proposed Amendments, the Committee has
some general comments that apply to both the Snyder and Pikeview
quarries and only a few comments that are specific to the
individual quarries.
GENERAL COMMENTS•
Foremost, the Committee would like to commend Castle for
taking a hard, critical look at the mining plans for these
quarries and developing new mining plans that are sensitive to
reclamation and visual impact. The proposed mining plans are a
tremendous improvement over the existing plans. The Amendment
applications are very well drafted and thoroughly explain both
the existing conditions and plans as well as the proposed plans.
The Amendments also provide much more detail than the original
1977 permits and subsequent amendments that control mining at
these quarries. As indicated in our prior meetings with Castle,
DCC\99999\98610.1
