State Reg.

3.27 Chloride
C Chloride concentrations range from < 3 to 222 ppm in the
overburden and from <3 to 57 ppm in the underburden.
Concentrations generally range between 5 and 15 ppm. The high
concentrations of chloride are associated with strata high in
sodium. No reclamation problems are anticipated from
chlorides.
3.28 Bicarbonate
Bicarbonate values range from < 0.1 to 5.9 ineq/1 in the
overburden and from <0.1 to 9.8 meq/1 in the underburden.
Concentrations generally range between 1 and 2 meq/1. The
bicarbonate anion is dominant at the higher pH levels.
3.29 Carbonate
Carbonate values range from <0.1 to 0.1 meq/1 in the overburden
and from < 0.1 to 1.3 meq/1 in the underburden. Concentrations
C are predominantly less than 0.1 meq/l.
3.30 Sulfate
Sulfate values range from < 10 to 115 meq/1 in the overburden
and from <10 to 78 meq/1 in the underburden. The highest
sulfate levels are associated with low pH strata. Levels of
sulfate at Seneca are not considered detrimental to good
reclamation.
3.31 Sulfur-Pyritic, Sulfate, Organic, and Total
Total sulfur levels range from < 0.10 to 1.9II percent in the
overburden and from <0.10 to 2.40 percent in the underburden.
The highest levels of sulfur are associated with the low pH
layers and the coal strata. Pyritic sulfur represents 80
percent of the total sulfur contained in the overburden. The
sulfate and organic fractions represent 15 and 5 percent,
respectively. The highest pyritic zones occur in Wotf Creek
overburden when the Wolf Creek coal seam is less than 70 feet
deep. The Wolf Creek spoils will be sampled and tested
according to procedures stated in Pages 6-29, 6-30, 6-33, 6-34,
6-153, 6-153a, and 6-164 of this application.
6-151
Revised 10/1/86
