Walther <br />Executive Dtrecror <br />Michael B.long <br />Division Director <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 118, <br />Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on August 14, 2001, an application to revise coal mining <br />operations at the Bowie No. 2 Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All review and comment <br />periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br />Approval of this revision will permit the conswction of a unit train loadout south of the present mining operation <br />and allow for an increase in the annual coal production from 5 million tons per yeaz to 6 million tons per yeaz. The <br />proposed train loadout construction will include a conveyor belt system to transport coal from the present coal <br />stockpile, over Old Highway 133, to a batch weigh loading system located above the railroad tracks. Also, there <br />will be 11,855 fee[ of new railroad track construction associated with the vain loadout. Sediment control will <br />consist of one sedimentation pond and several azeas protected by berms, silt fence and straw bales. The design <br />capacity of the proposed sedimentation pond is 2.41 acre-feet. The permit area will increase by 94 acres of private <br />land, 32 acres of which will be disturbed acreage. <br />The Underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 5 miles Northeast of Paonia, Colorado. <br />The permit area is further described as follows: <br />Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, and 16, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th Y.M. <br />Portions of Sections 33 and 34, Township 12 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land aze shown on USGS 7.S minute Quadrangle map of Bowie. <br />A copy of the revision application is available for public inspection at the Paonia Public Library, 140 Grand <br />Avenue, Paonia, CO 81428, and at the Division office.
