Addendum to Geotechnical Data Report
Bowie Resources, Limited
• July 2002
Section 5 -Subsurface Conditions
5.1 Genera!
Generalized subsurface conditions identified in the five borings drilled are discussed in the
following sections.
5.2 Landslide
Generalized subsurface conditions identified in the four borings drilled in the landslide azea
aze discussed in the following paragraphs and presented graphically in section on Figure 6.
In general, the materials at the landslide consist of glacial deposits over bedrock.
5.2.9 Glacial Deposits
Glacial deposits were encountered initially or below topsoil in the borings drilled in the
existing landslide area (Borings BL-101, BL-IOlA, and BL-102 respectively) and extend to
depths of 6.7, 14.5, and 24.5 feet, respectively. These materials are generally low to medium
plastic clays with I S to 75 percent sand and 5 to 30 percent gravel. Dry densities ranged
from 104 to 112.8 pounds per cubic foot. Liquid limits ranged from 30 to 47 and averaged
38.4. Water contents ranged from about 18 to 23 percent. These glacial soils classify as CL
according to the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). These materials are generally
medium stiff to very stiff, slightly moist to moist, red, brown, gray-green, and dark gray in
color.
5.2.2 Failure Zone
A possible failure zone less than 1 foot thick was identified in Boring BL-102 within the
glacial deposits, at a depth of 19.5 feet. This material consists of low to medium plastic clays
that visually classify as CL according to the USCS. This material is soft, moist to very moist,
and red in color. Recovery of this material type was difficult due to the soft consistency and
higher moisture content.
5.2.3 Bedrock
• Bedrock was encountered in Borings BL-101, BL-lOlA, and BL-102 below the glacial
deposits. The bedrock generally consists of interbedded claystone and sandstone of the Mesa
GLI "on$ultant$, Inc. to 9525202-07-03 Atltlentlum GeotecM¢al. na~a Rp~
