built since the mine shut down, and there is a fear of more damage, including to the t00+-
year-old Coaldale Community Building which is on the Colorado Historical Register.
When the quarry in Parkdale was proposed, there were statements to the effect that the
operations would not be visible from US 50. Not only are they visible, during windy periods
(common in the mountains), dust blows all the way over to the highway. So, promises of
minimal impact from the Coaldale Quarry are }ust not believable. Neither are statements of
minimal impact on water, wildlife, etc.
When all of the above aze taken into serious consideration, we believe the quarry is not worthy of
resumption of operations. Holcim may talk of a six-month assessment, or trial period, with a
final decision subsequent to that time. If so, and if you do approve their permit request, please
do not approve the permit for a longer period. Make them bring the results to you and to the
public for further review and possible approval.
Thank you for your consideration of the concerns of citizens of this community.
Sincerely,
/~~~~r ~ ~
~.~ ~~ Gr. ~ ~~~~
Raymond F.
