Box 591, Somerset, <br />Colorado 81434, was deemed complete for the purposes of filing. All reviews <br />and comment periods as provided in the Act and Regulations promulgated <br />thereunder initiate from this day of filing. <br />The applicant proposes to revise underground coal mining operations at the <br />West Elk Mine. The technical revision allows for construction of a fan bench <br />and associated facilities including shafts, ducting, mine fan, trans- former <br />and switchgear, and a short road around the facility in the Lone Pine Gulch <br />area within the West Elk Mine permit boundary. <br />The West Elk Mine is located in Gunnison County, approximately one mile east <br />of Somerset, Colorado, and is described as follows: <br />Sections 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 26, 27, <br />28, 29, 30 and 34, Township 13 South, Range 90 West of <br />the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.6 minute Quadrangle map <br />of Somerset, Colorado. <br />Because the above referenced technical revision application might alter <br />previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures, we are <br />requesting your agency's evaluation of the potential for i;npacts to threatened <br />or endangered species of plants or animals, or wildlife species otherwise <br />protected by federal law. Applicable sections of the revision application are <br />enclosed. Please advise us if you require additional information. <br />In order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that <br />comments be submitted to the Division of Minerals and Geology at the above <br />
