4.0 CONSTRUCTION QUALITY CONTROL
4.1 Earthwork
Earthwork was conducted according to the specifications. Debris and boulders were removed
during placement of fill, and moisture control was utilized where necessary to aohieve required
compaction.
A sheepsfoot compactor was used to compact fill that was placed in the evaporation area. Once
compaction was complete, rocks were removed, the surface was fine graded, and a vibratory
smooth-drum compactor was used to proof-roll the surface before placement of the liner.
Compaction of fill in the holding pond embankment was also done with a sheepsfoot compactor,
and moisture was added during placement of fill in order to obtain the required percent
compaction. Additional compaction was provided by equipment traffic. Lift thicknesses were
kept to less than 24 inches, and compaction testing was done according to specifications. Two
compaction tests were performed on the embankment fill, and both produced passing results.
Compaction test locations are shown on Figure 1, and the results aze presented in Appendix C.
Before concrete was poured for the pump and sprayer pads, rocks and other deleterious materials
were removed from the pad footprint and the surface was made level. The subgrade was then
proof-rolled using asmooth-drum compactor.
4.2 Liner
Liner installation was performed by National Seal Company of Reno, Nevada. The liner was
placed in accordance with construction and manufacturer specifications, and liner quality control
was conducted by National Seal. Destructive and non-destructive testing were performed at the
frequencies provided in the specifications. One failed test was documented, however passing
results were obtained during the retest. Quality control results and documentation were
periodically reviewed by the SMI Field Engineer during the course of liner installation, and
copies of the documentation are contained in Appendix A.

Battle Mounmin Resources, Inc. 5 August TO, /999
