Ms. Christine E. Johnston
1992 AHR Response
August 25, 1994
Page 8
Mining compiles production data on a monthly basis, which is available for your review at any time. In
1992, the annual production was 1,384,819 tons; in 1993 production increased to 2,986,230 tons.
Production is well within the range allowed by the permit. Future production estimates are subject to
changing market conditions and are speculative at best.
OBSERVATIONS
No response is required.
2. Table 6 on page 6 indicates that over the course of the year, that averaged over the course of the year,
there is 5 acre-feet (3. I gpm) of mine inflow discharge and 36.6 acre-feat (22.7 gpm) of discharge from
the removal of water utilized in the mine. The maximum mine discharge was probably actually higher than
that, as water is not discharged from the [[tine on a continual basis.
It is assumed that the CHIA is refemng to the volume of water actually discharging rather than the amount
of water actually consumed by the mine.
3. No response is required.
4. No response is required.
5. No response is required.
6. No response is required.
7. No response is reyuired.
8. The minimum low flow noted during the 1992 water year on the North Fork of the Gunnison River near
Somerset was 54 cfs. The lowest TDS value acyuired in 1992 on September 8, 1992 when the Flow was
224 cfs was 108 mg/L. The CHIA assumes a worst case condition of 47.6 cfs.
9. The salinity values as reflected by conductivity and TDS concentrations acquired in 1992 are within [he
range of values observed between 1988 and 1991.
Should you have questions or need additional information concerning any of the responses in this letter, please do
no[ hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
1~c~ ~~
Kathleen G.
