5 Gob Ventilation Boreholes
Dear S it or Madam:
The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116,
Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on June l9, 2000, an application to revise coal mining
operations at the Bowie No. 2 Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was
submitted by Bowie Resources Limited. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the
Regulations initiate from this date of filing.
Approval of this technical revision would permit the construction of five methane de-gas wells along with thcir
associated light use roads and drill pads. The planned surface disturbance, which totals 4.4 acres, is located within
the approved permit boundary and on surface lands owned by Bowie Resources. One of the boreholes and its
associated 0.3 mile light use road are located above federal coal. The other four boreholes and their associated 1.1
mile light use roads are located above coal owned by Bowie Resources. The operator does not anticipate using
exhaust pumps on the de-gas wells. The de-gas holes and their associated surface disturbance will be reclaimed.
The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately5 miles northeast of Paonia, Colorado.
The permit area is further described as follows:
Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 1 I, 14, 15, and 16, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Bowie.
Pertinent portions of the technical revision are enclosed.
A copy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Paonia Public Library, 140
Grand Avenue, Paonia, CO and at the Division office. For additional information or to provide written comments,
