GENERAL

Macar Corporation's O. C. Mine No. 2 is located in Section 16,
Township 15 South, Range 86 West of the 6th Principal Meridian,
Gunnison County, Colorado. The area is characterized by sparse
vegetation, primarily scrub oak, on steep south-facing slopes.
The elevation of the mine site is approximately 9,200 feet.
HYDROLOGY
Precipitation values for .the 10-year, 24-hour and ZS-year, 24-
hour storms were taken from "Procedures for Determining Peak
Flows in Colorado" and "Urban Hydrology for Small Watersheds",
published by the Soil Conservation Service. Runoff values were
found in these publications using a Curve Number of 89, which
was taken as representative of the area.
Discharges used to design the various ditches were calculated
using the Peak Discharge (c.f.s. per inch of runoff) values from
Figure D-2 (see Appendix) and the runoff values determined pre-
viously. Ditch slopes will be modified by use of water bars
(cast-in-place concrete, grouted concrete block, grouted stone
or treated timbers) or 2 foot high drops to achieve velocities
of 5 feet per second or less. Ditch sections are shown in the
Appendix and on the endlosed drawing.
-1-
