Primarily this program
tazgets plants that have been classified as noxious weeds by the State of Colorado and the
Counties where United Companies operates facilities. This program also includes a new
section to comply with a recent amendment to the Division of Minerals and Geology
Weed Policy conceming Tamarisk and Russian Olives.
According to State law (CRS 35-5.5, The Colorado Weed Management Act), noxious
weeds must be managed. Integrated Weed Management is a strategy that has been
suggested as the structure for control programs. The elements of this approach include:
- Preventing the encroachment of noxious weed species into un-infested areas.
- Detecting and eradicating new weed species.
- Containing large-scale infestations.
•• Controlling large-scale infestations using an integrated approach.
- Revegetation.
Our sites in Mesa County as well as our sites in other counties have active control
measures for noxious weed species. Our program consists of a competent qualified
weed control specialist treating each location twice a yeaz. During the Spring herbicide
applications will be tazgeted at Hoary Cress as well as the other plants on the list that may
be present. Later, during the late Summer/early Fall herbicide applications will tazget the
knapweed species plus others we may have sprayed for in the spring..
