June 30, 1554
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCEkN:
Subject: Climatic C:onditirns
Zellitti F'it
La Flata County, Cc~lc~rado
I have lived, farmed and ranthed in this area all of my life.
Annual precipitation averages between 14 and 18 inches. Of
this apprar.imately v0 percent is snow. We usualy experience
thunderstorms in late July, August and September. A dry
spell from May to early July is the norm. June is usually
the driest month of the year. Typically there are wide
deviations in moisture from year to year.
Active grr_,wth ..f the major native plants usually starts in
April and continues through most Gf June. Some plants'
growth, however, ends in late May. Many plants experience
more growth if there is enough late summer rain to support
them.
We generally have a frost-free growing season of approxi-
mately lc_10 to 130 days. Average annual temperatures range
from '30 degrees to -lv degrees. Higher and lower tempera-
tures are sometimes recorded.
Sincerely,
-.lc~~
Anthony 7 itti
