Long
D'rnsion Director
On November 22, 1993 the Division of Minerals and Geology conditionally approved your
application for a conversion to a 112 permit for the 8 Mile Clay Mine in Fremont County. The
conversation application is approved with the condition that "All existing highwalls must be no
greater than 30 feet. Site evidence must demonstrate that all existing highwalls are stable. In
the absence of such evidence the operator will amend the mining and reclamation pLLn to
guarantee highwall stability."
The existing mine plan does not include benching as a technique to achieve highwall stability. If
such a technique becomes necessary then the mine plan will need to be amended and the
reclamation cost adjusted accordingly. Under the terms of the 112 conversation the maximum
allowable disturbance is 20 acres and the reclamation cost has been set at $49,166.00.
Therefore, you will need to either replace the existing $2,500.00 financial warranty or supply a
rider for an additional $46,666.00. Please submit within 60 days. I have enclosed forms for
your use.
Please call me at 866-3567 if you have any questions.
sincerely,
X Thomas A.
