Ol
November 02, 1998
Division of Minerals and Geology
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Dcnver, CO 80203
Fax #:303-832-8106
Attention: Carl Mount
RE: Permit No. M-94-117
Gold Hill Mill
Deaz Carl,
This memorandum is sent with reference to the approved Technical Revision pertaining to
installing a layer of ballast material on parts of the exposed tailings in the original tailings
impoundment. The purpose, in part, is to preconsolidate those old tailings, prior to placement of
the remainder of the new liner system for the expanded tailings impoundment.
This is to confirm that, in accord with our proposal and discussions, there was incorporated into
the ballast material the abandoned "ore" which was removed from the coarse and fine ore bins
during the rehabilitation of the Gold Hill Mill. This abandoned material, estimated to have a
weight of 38-50 tons, was mixed with other ballast material nn October 28 & 29, 1998. On the
same days, the total ballast material was placed over and upon the extended geogrid
rcinforcetnent layer over the surface area of the exposed tailings in the two areas where the
indicated tailings depths exceed one foot.
All the abandoned material was used in this operation. At this time, the monitoring/observation of
settlement is in progress, and next steps await the final determination of settlement of the loaded
area.
Please let the know of any commrnts or questions.
ITEC Environmental Colorado Inc.
by, Ted ngler
i '
~.
