Lochhead
Executive Dinxlor
Michael B. Long
Division DlfeflOr
As I discussed with you earlier today, the Division has further reviewed the Edna Mine permit
renewal application. As a result of that review and in addition to the preliminary adequacy
concerns previously transmitted, the Division is requiring that P&M update the Probable
Hydrologic Consequences section of the permit application. P&M should update Section 253,
Consequences of Mining, Appendix 2S-A 'Trout Creek TDS Loading Due to Mining" (short
term predictions), and Appendix 25-B 'Trout Creek Sulfate Loadis Due to Mining" so that
predicdloas are based on current conditions. Sppecifically, P&M should consider the effects on
the predictions of monitoring data to date, the develo went of a sppoil spring in the Moffat area,
the combination of CDPS outfalls #002, #003, and #006 into #00'), the addiuon of the Trout
Creek sandstone monitoring well (TRS-1), and the actual extent of mining which took place.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Susan L Burgmaie
Environmental Protection Specialist
sL73~ou~
