This ie somewhat inconaie ant with the
stated plan of developing wildlife habitat. Several of the trees are to be removed
and there is no reference to replacing them. Also if the area is to a developed
along these lines, not only are trees essential, but shrubs should al o be a part of
the finished project.
One other item that appears to be a bit ambiguous, it is stated that he wetlands
developed by this project can replace wetlands destroyed elsewhere. his area
itself, although much of it ie cropland, has a considerable amount of wetland in the
riparian area which will be destroyed by the mining, and will be rapt ced by open
ponded water. This will certainly enhance the area for waterfowl, bu at the
expense of terrestrial wildlife.
Sin rely,
n oga
Environment Biolog
DB/jk/L23
cc: R. Moss
T.
